School systems are cutting gym classes. sports, and recess nationwide. Along with an alluring sedative lifestyle children are not getting enough exercise through out the week. Heroes Camp provides a safe environment for youth to exercise. We have phenomenal basketball talent on our staff that are able to train the children. In addition we have recently added a weight room to our facility to further encourage movement. Besides enjoying the health benefits of regular exercise, kids who are physically fit sleep better and are better able to handle physical and emotional challenges. While training is important we realize that fun is a necessity and interweave the two together for a work out tailor made for our members.
We partner with Feed the Hungry (LeSea ministries), Sam's Club of Mishawaka, the Northern Food Bank of Indiana, and many local restaurants to provide meals for our children. With the support of our sponsors our families will never have to think about skipping a meal because provision is not there. We keep our pantries stocked and offer food baskets to those that need it. Every time we are open we have a meal prepared.
This is a powerful tool in transforming our athletes identities. It's good to properly care for your hygiene and feel comfortable with your look. To care for the body is important for self-esteem and helps one feel like they are worthy to be cared for in a world where kids are getting bullied because of their looks or unkept hair.
All of the barbers have grown up in Heroes Camp during their youth and now give freely of their time to contribute to the same love and support they felt when they walked through the doors for the first time. Free of charge, every member of Heroes Camp can receive a haircut.
Recently we converted some wasted space into a high tech studio for recording music and videos. We have multiple keyboards, guitars, drum set, and recording software to produce studio quality music. We hope to partner with local musicians and reach out to established talent to give our children the best possible knowledge and experience in the industry. Also include in the studio is green screen technology. With more and more amateur videos being scouted on youtube and other video sites we are confident that Heroes Campers can help to contribute positively to the culture. Like always this is a free service while other non-profits are charging any where from $300-$450 a day for the same technology.
